No More Nukes: Time to Scrap Trident now
The UK government has announced that it will increase the number of warheads in the UK's nuclear arsenal by 40%. This is an astonishing development at a time when Presidents Biden and Putin have just renewed their bilateral nuclear reductions Treaty. It amounts to Boris Johnson launching a new nuclear arms race.
This decision also runs counter to the UK's international legal obligation under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to disarm our nuclear weapons.
The UK's nuclear arsenal is already big enough to kill hundreds of millions of people. We don't need more nuclear weapons. We don't need any nuclear weapons.
At this critical time during a global pandemic, when communities across the UK are suffering from insufficient government funding in health, housing and proper support for vital public sector jobs – it is unbelievable that our government is spending money on more weapons of mass destruction.
Now is the time to say No. Now is the time to Scrap Trident altogether.
Write to the Prime Minister and ask him to build the kind of world we want to live in: at peace and free from the fear of nuclear annihilation.
